Photo Journal: Taking the Long Road: A few pictures... ![]() There are almost as many donkey carts as there are cars - Problem was, I usually past them before I had time to get my camera up. This one is a bit blurry, but at least he's in the frame. ( see a few more ) Just some of my favorite pictures from the trip. ( random photos ) Finally get to the castle :) One of the best ruins I've seen - enough standing to give you a very good idea what it looked like, without the fake 'touristy' stuff some places do to make you feel like 'youre there'. Menai suspension bridge, by Thomas Telford. Our host said it was a medieval bridge. ![]() It leads to Conwy Castle.... ![]() ( what you've been waiting for, more castle shots ) The country was just fabulous. Me: *smells something strange* Hubby: *breathing deeply* Ahhh, fresh country air! Me: (seriously) Oh, was that what it was. ![]() ( more country and river shots ) Far zoom proved the tiny grey building I saw on a small island in the river, was a graveyard.
It was winter time, so it was cold, grey and windy. It rained a lot - but didn't rain when I was out taking photographs, so it worked out well. ![]() All the signs were in Welsh and English, so it make things much easier ;) ![]() I got a quick lesson in speaking welsh: Ll = gargle (like the arabic caf sound) y = a sound f = v sound There were more, but I don't remember them. ( more pictures of the harbour ) The roads are what I consider footpaths. Small, winding, rutted - a real adventure. They're two way streets, and quite frightening if you have a large car. The people are fabulous - only the Irish can beat them (or match them) for curtisy and friendliness. A really lovely people. The grass is a vivid green, and there's enough sheep to feed an army for a year. (I saw 6 horses, and apx 2.7 million sheep) While I was there, I visited the city with the longest name in great britian: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwll-l which means: St. Marys church by the white hazel pool near the fierce whirlpool with the church of Tysilio by the red cave. ![]() and even though we didn't go there, the longest named rail way station is: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwill I kid you not. We did stop by the smallest house in Britain: ![]() after that, we went up the hill and to conway castle, which will get it's own entry. I loved wales, and MUST go back! ![]() ( 4 more ) Another "it'll never happen to me" dream come true. Far too many things from Rome to put in one post, so I'll be breaking it down by building. Today's incredable building in Rome.... ![]() ( ...the colosseum ) They say there's a million cats in the colosseum. I saw one. Maybe, like cockroaches, the only ones that come out during the day or the sick and dazed ones. It doesn't look like they've ever really done extensive archeological work here. I'm thinking if they dig a bit, all kinds of things would surface. You can breath the history here. It's still there, under the moss, the trembling heart beat of the dying gladiator. I was so lucky to be able to go. I'm so glad I did. A lovely old church in London, England. I've gone by it I don't know how many times and said 'oh, I want to get this at night!' and I finally did. ![]() ( 11 more, some with filters ) I missed the winter solistice by two days, but still, some super pictures of Stonehenge. ![]() ( stonehenge ) |
